The basics

What Is a Balloon Wall?

A balloon wall is a solid surface made entirely of balloons, usually 6 to 10 feet across, that serves as a backdrop.

A balloon arch outlines a space and a balloon garland follows an edge, but a balloon wall covers the whole surface. It stands on a freestanding frame or grid in front of whatever's behind it, so it can be a photo wall, a stage background, a backdrop for the dessert table or a branded step-and-repeat at a launch.

Square foot for square foot, nothing in balloon decor makes a bigger statement. Walls work for birthdays, weddings, grad parties, gender reveals, holiday parties and company events, and they photograph cleanly because there's no gap for the room behind to peek through.

Wall styles

Types of Balloon Walls We Build

There are five main ways to build one. Each has its own look and its own price point.

Organic balloon walls

Organic walls cover the frame in mixed balloon sizes so the surface looks like a soft, textured cloud. It's the most lavish style and the one couples, shower hosts and milestone birthdays book most. It also takes the most balloons, which puts it at the top of our wall pricing.

Grid and link balloon walls

Grid walls are built from link balloons, which have a tail on each end so they connect into a net. The result is tidy rows you can turn into a checkerboard, a heart, a number or a simple pattern. People search for these as quick link balloon walls or balloon wall links. They're sharp and graphic, and they handle brand, team and Greek-letter colors beautifully.

Framed balloon walls

A framed wall packs balloons into a shaped frame: a rectangle, an arch-top chiara or a circle. The outline carries much of the design. An arched frame feels elegant, a square one feels clean and modern, and a round one feels playful.

Foil and mylar balloon walls

Foil walls use mylar balloons, often hearts, stars or squares in metallic finishes. They bounce light, look great on camera and contain no latex, which matters for guests with allergies and for venues that don't allow latex balloons.

Floating and lighted balloon walls

Floating walls are rows of helium balloons on ribbons, anchored so the whole wall sways a little. It's eye-catching but brief, so plan it for a few hours. Lighted walls weave in LED string lights or LED balloons for evening parties, rooftop events and New Year's Eve.

Sizing

Balloon Wall Sizes and How Many Balloons They Need

Size the wall to the photo you want. An 8×8 ft wall fits six to eight people without squeezing.

Common balloon wall sizes and what they suit
Wall sizeSuitsGood to know
6×6 ftCouples, small groups, a backdrop for the dessert tableRight for intown apartments and restaurant private rooms
8×8 ftGroup photos, a cake table with guests around itOur most booked size
8×10 ftStages, head tables, step-and-repeatsNeeds roughly 9 ft of ceiling clearance
Custom widthsLong walls, stages, shop windowsBuilt in sections and joined at the venue

A grid wall of 11-inch link balloons uses about 1.2–1.5 balloons per square foot, and organic walls use two to four times that many. Check the ceiling height, and leave 2–3 ft clear in front of the wall for photos. Tall warehouse ceilings on the Westside make room for the big sizes; low basement ceilings usually call for 6×6.

Uses

Ways to Use a Balloon Wall

A balloon wall pulls its weight because it handles several jobs at once.

Balloon photo wall

The selfie and group-shot spot. Add a neon sign or a vinyl name and guests will queue up for it.

Cake and dessert backdrop

Behind the cake table it keeps photos clean and hides whatever's back there, from a kitchen pass-through to a fire exit.

Stage and head-table background

For toasts, DJs, awards, pastor's anniversary programs and wedding head tables.

Branded step-and-repeat

A grid wall in company colors with a logo panel, for launches, galas, conferences and booths downtown.

Room divider

Screens off a catering setup, a bar or a storage corner in a rented hall.

Gender reveal moment

A neutral wall with a hidden pop panel, or one that flips to pink or blue on the reveal side.

Occasions

Balloon Walls for Birthdays, Weddings, Graduations and Holidays

These are the events that book balloon walls most around Atlanta.

  • Birthdays: walls for kids' parties and for 18th, 21st and 30th birthdays, often with the age or a name set into the wall.
  • Weddings and bridal showers: ivory, white and blush organic walls behind the sweetheart table or at the reception door.
  • Graduations, prom and homecoming: grid walls in school colors with the class year, plus glam walls for prom pictures and HBCU homecoming parties.
  • Gender reveals and baby showers: neutral walls built for the reveal, and soft pastel walls for showers.
  • Greek-letter events: grid walls in chapter colors for probates, anniversaries and step-show after-parties.
  • Valentine's Day: foil heart walls in red, pink and rose gold.
  • Christmas and New Year's Eve: red, green and gold walls, and black, gold and silver chrome walls for the countdown.
  • Corporate events: branded walls for openings, galas and conferences.

Installation

How We Install a Balloon Wall Without Damaging Your Walls

The short version: nothing gets attached to your walls at all.

Each balloon wall we build sits on its own weighted frame. At home that saves your paint from tape and glue dots. At venues it keeps you inside the rules, since Buckhead hotel ballrooms and most event halls around the metro prohibit tape, nails and adhesive on their walls. A freestanding wall can also be shifted a few feet on the day if the room layout changes.

  1. 1

    Measure

We confirm the wall size, ceiling height, outlets for any lighting, and the route from the loading door to the spot.

  2. 2

    Build

Big walls are made in panels, carried in and joined on-site, then fluffed until the seams vanish.

  3. 3

    Finish

Signs, vinyl, foil accents and lights go on last, and we check the wall from where the photos will actually be taken.

How should you hang balloons on a wall? Put them on a frame standing in front of the wall rather than on the wall itself. If you're attaching balloons directly, use removable hooks and fishing line instead of tape, and test any adhesive somewhere out of sight first.

Longevity

How Long Do Balloon Walls Last?

Air-filled walls hold up for several days indoors. Floating helium walls last a few hours.

An air-filled organic or grid wall in an air-conditioned room keeps its shape for several days and often a full week. Foil walls last longer still, while floating helium walls begin to sag within hours. For an outdoor wall in an Atlanta summer, keep it in shade, build it the day of, and remember a solid wall catches wind like a sail when an afternoon storm blows in, so it needs weight and tie-offs.

Questions

Balloon Walls in Atlanta: FAQ

What is a balloon wall?

A freestanding surface covered completely in balloons, usually 6 to 10 feet wide, used as a photo backdrop, a stage background or a dessert-table wall. It can be organic, grid-style, framed or built from foil balloons.

How much does a balloon wall cost in Atlanta?

Our foil balloon walls start at $110 for 8×5 ft, grid walls at $395 and organic walls at $575 for 8×8 ft. The size, the style and any add-ons decide the final number.

How long do balloon walls last?

Several days indoors when air-filled, often a full week. Foil walls last longer. Floating helium walls last a few hours, and outdoor walls in Atlanta summer sun last only hours.

What size balloon wall do I need?

Most people choose 8×8 ft, which fits a group photo or a cake table. A 6×6 ft wall suits smaller rooms and couples, and 8×10 ft or custom widths suit stages and head tables.

Will a balloon wall damage my walls?

No. Our walls stand on weighted frames in front of your wall, so no tape, nails or glue ever touch your paint.

What is it called when balloons are linked into a wall?

A grid wall or a link wall. It's made from link balloons joined into a net, which makes rows, patterns, numbers and logos possible.

Can a balloon wall be latex-free?

Yes. A foil (mylar) wall has no latex at all, which makes it the safe pick for guests with latex allergies and for venues that ban latex.

Can you add a name or logo to a balloon wall?

Yes. Names go on with custom vinyl or a neon sign. Logos go on a panel set into the wall, or they're built right into a grid wall in brand colors.
